"Moms with a Mission" Tip of the Week - #13: Re-Gift

Week #13: Week of December 28th

Need to find homes for some of those holiday gifts that aren't quite your style or duplicates of things you already have? Organize a neighborhood pick-up from a local charity just after the holidays. Rally your neighbors to pitch in too, so all those unwanted gifts can go to good homes. Happy Holidays!!

Merry Christmas!

Ho, Ho, Ho!
'Tis the Season to Be Jolly!

We are so excited that Stroller Strides came this year to the Peninsula!  In March we kicked off with a great start and a lot of energy.  April was focused on our annual fundraising efforts for March of Dimes.  Here we are in December rounding out the year and looking forward to all the fun, fitness & fundraising we have planned for 2010.

Be on the lookout for our upcoming newsletters to stay abreast of all that's in store for Stroller Strides.  Each month it'll include the details of our 2010 classes, playgroups, mom & family events, and fundraisers, so don't miss out!

This winter we hope you're enjoying a fantastic holiday season with your family, and we are thrilled that you're finally a part of our Stroller Strides family too!

In Health & Holiday Happiness,
Peninsula Pride Stroller Strides

"Moms with a Mission" Tip of the Week - #11: Gift Wrapping

Week #11: Week of December 14th

The average consumer wraps 20 gifts during the holidays. If just 3 of those gift were wrapped in reused paper or a paper alternative, the paper saved could cover 45,000 football fields!

Use decorative newspaper ads, colorful pages from magazines, old book pages, music sheets, old maps, calendars, or Sunday comics to wrap with.

Use children's drawings and paintings that you don't want to throw away for wrapping paper.
Cut wrapping paper or children's art to fit the top and bottom of a gift box and permanently attach it, so it may be reused.

Reuse old ribbons and wrapping paper (if wrinkled, press with a warm iron)

Use flowers, evergreen sprigs, rosemary, pinecones, yarn or reusable hair ribbons instead of plastic bows.
Use the fronts of old holiday cards as name tags for this year's gifts.
Create a scavenger hunt in your home by hiding unwrapped gifts and giving each of your family members clues to find them.

"Moms with a Mission" Tip of the Week - #10: Christmas Trees

Week #10: Week of December 7

If you’re in the market for a Christmas tree, take the kids to get an organic tree this year – go with a real organic tree, then recycle or replant after. Here are some reasons why an organic tree is the best option:

Fewer chemicals flying through the air. Many tree farms use pesticides that harm workers and the environment, and are especially harmful to kids.
Many fakes contain toxic plastics that are hard to recycle, and 80% are shipped from overseas.

Opting for a living tree with roots intact, then replanting in your yard after is the most eco-friendly option. Think shade in summer, a natural windbreak, and a fun thing to do with kids.

Most landfills are so compacted that organic matter can’t biodegrade; recyclers turn trees into wood chips that can help prevent land erosion.
